About ALIES
Alberta Life Issues Educational Society (ALIES) is a non-profit organization and a federally registered charity that operates in the province of Alberta. ALIES gathers, develops and distributes information on a broad range of life issues. These include abortion, euthanasia, reproductive technologies, pregnancy, birth control and human sexuality. ALIES is a member of LifeCanada, a national educational pro-life group.
As a means of promoting life-affirming options in today’s society ALIES operates a volunteer-based outreach program called the Back Porch Ministry to assist, support and refer abortion-minded women and those experiencing grief following abortion. In this capacity we network with counseling groups across Alberta. The Back Porch is located directly across from the Edmonton Woman’s Health Options abortion clinic (formerly the Morgentaler Clinic) where over 6,000 abortions are performed annually. It is a “last resort” for women and their partners who have doubts, concerns, misgivings or misinformation about their choice to abort. Dedicated volunteers speak with clients. This is the only project of its kind in Alberta.
ALIES is governed by a board of directors, one full-time and one part-time employee.
